- Obituary Gerard John MULDER
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gerard John Mulder of Fredericton New Brunswick on January 14, 2024, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital.
Gerard was born on June 10, 1943, in Deventer, Holland.
Gerard, or Gerry as he was known by everyone, truly loved celebrating with his family and friends. Gerry was in the meat business, so you can just imagine him preparing his famous prime rib dinners at these events. He was also an amazing soup and pie maker. Gerry enjoyed watching movies and reading a good book on anything to do with historic events but what he truly loved was to wet a line on the Miramichi with his fishing buddies and family.
Gerry's passion lay in operating the Mulder Meat business, established in 1968, which he and his wife and partner, Carolyn, started with a small savings and a loan from his father (at a rate higher than the banks he would always add). As a post-war immigrant from the Netherlands, Gerry began his work life in modest circumstances, but through hard work and a talent for relating to people, their business thrived.
Gerry and Carolyn worked hard building a life and business together and supported each ones endeavors in building up their business. Gerry would work at the Boyce Farmers Market with her and the market became their tight-knit community. And of course, he came to know everyone.
Whenever he was invited to explain the meat business, his true passion was revealed. He loved meeting people and working with everyone involved in the business, from butchers to sales to office staff. He loved it all, and he loved them all. Gerry used to tease that 'If you ain't Dutch, ya ain't much', but he had another saying that came from his heart. He'd say 'Talk to people. People make the world go round.'
In addition to his wife Carolyn, Gerard is survived by sons John (Karen), Todd (Dana), and daughter Margo (Jon); his 6 grandchildren, Harrison, Olivia, Rebecca, Samantha, Madeline, and Amelia; along with his brothers Jos and Ted, sisters-in-law Cassandra, and Lavona, and brothers-in-law Steven, and John. Besides his parents Johannes Mulder and Everdina Boerkamp, Gerard is predeceased by brothers John, Tony, Nick, Bill; sister Anne Marie; and brother-in-law Keith Hastings.
